A desert safari is the classic half-day escape from the city — trading the skyline for the dunes just inland. It is touristy, yes, but done well it is genuinely good fun and a memorable contrast to Dubai’s glass and steel.
What happens on a safari

Morning or evening?
Evening safaris are the most popular, ending with sunset over the dunes and dinner at camp. Morning safaris are shorter, cooler and quieter, and good if you want the dune drive without the whole show. For something calmer, premium tours run inside the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, where you may spot oryx and gazelle.
Practical tips
- Go from October to April, when the desert is comfortable; midsummer is punishing.
- Wear light clothes and closed shoes, bring sunglasses and a layer for the cooler evening.
- If you are prone to motion sickness, ask for gentler dune driving or choose a conservation-reserve tour.
