Messaging a host

Where conversations live and why some details are hidden.

Each conversation is attached to a specific booking or enquiry, so you and the host always know which stay you are discussing. Find them under Messages.

Why phone numbers and emails are hidden

Until a booking is paid for, phone numbers, email addresses, links and messaging handles are hidden in messages. Once payment goes through they appear normally, so your host can send gate codes, directions and arrival instructions.

This is deliberate. Almost every scam on a booking platform starts with someone suggesting you pay directly and skip the site. If you do, there is no booking, no cancellation cover, and nothing anyone can refund.

⚠️ If a host asks you to pay by bank transfer, mobile money or any method outside EthioBete, do not. Report the message instead.

Reporting a message

Every message you receive has a Report link. Reported messages go to our team with the full original text. Reporting does not notify the other person.
